While I am identifying  the Seven Major Chakras, I would like to point out, again, that Reiki allows the client to draw the energy wherever they may need it, and that the placing on of hands does not occur only in the Major Charkas.

We will start our "journey" at the Root Chakra, commonly called the First Chakra, and move our way up, throughout the body.

First Chakra - Root - This is the Root of our existence, and is our base/primal feelings and drives, such as survival issues, connection to the people in our lives and sexual issues.  This Chakra impacts the lower portions of our body, including the penis, vagina, rectum, colon, perineum, base of the spine, legs, knees, feet, adrenals, skeletal structure, lower back, skin, little fingers and toes.  (remember that the adrenals, and their stimulation dictate our fight or flight response to situations, which is why it lines up so well with our base/primal feelings).  This Chakra is located between the anus and genitals, ie, between the anus and spine in men, and between the ovaries in women.

Second Chakra - Sacral - This Chakra is where we see the introduction of Creativity, in our relationships, in the way we se our world and work, and are open to new ideas.  This Chakra also deals with procreation, and emotional balance, instead of having the selfish point of view of the Root Chakra, now we are giving and receiving.  This Chakra influences the sexual organs, testes, ovaries, uterus, breasts, lower vertebrae, circulatory system, pelvis, bladder, kidneys, appendix, prostate, large intestine and ring fingers and toes.  This Chakra is located in the lower abdomen, between the naval and the genitals.  (approx 2 inches below the naval)

Third Chakra - Solar Plexus - This  Chakra deals primarily with the "ego".  How you see yourself, and how you imagine the world sees you, with respect to personal power, will, self esteem and self control.  This Chakra influences the digestive system, stomach, pancreas, adrenals, upper intestine, gall bladder, liver, muscles, umbilicus, thighs, middles fingers and toes, the middle of the spine, located behind the solar plexus.  This Chakra is located between the naval and the base of the sternum.

Fourth Chakra - Heart - The Heart Chakra is where we learn of unconditional love, forgiveness, compassion, understanding, acceptance, peace and harmony.  We are dealing with strong emotions in this Chakra.  This physical parts of the body impacted by this Chakra include the heart and circulatory system, lungs, ribs, breasts, shoulders, arms, hands, diaphragm, chest, kidneys, and index fingers and toes.  This Chakra is located in the centre of the chest.

Fifth Chakra - Throat - Through this Chakra we learn communication, personal expression, writing or the arts, as well as coming to terms with the Divine and the unknown.  Peace, wisdom, honesty and reliability all fall under this Chakra.  This Chakra affects the physical body in the following areas: throat, thyroid, trachea, parathyroid, hypothalamus, esophagus, neck, neck vertebrae, mouth, face, teeth, ears, arms, hands shoulders, all joints, big toes and thumbs.  This Chakra is located in the throat area, mid to base of neck area.

Sixth Chakra - Brow - In this Chakra, we move further into the unknown, with intuition, intellect, inner vision, imagination, concentration and peace of mind developing.  This Chakra influences the brain and nervous system, pituitary gland, pineal gland, eyes, ears, nose, the senses, the immune system, and the base of the scull.  This Chakra is located at the third eye, above and between the eyebrows.

Seventh Chakra - Crown - Through this Chakra we connect with the God of our understanding, the Divine as we believe it.  This Chakra also deals with divine wisdom and understanding, spiritual will, courage, idealism, selfless service, and perception beyond this world.  This Chakra influences the central nervous system, muscular system, skeletal system, cerebral cortex, pituitary and pineal glands, and the skin.  This Chakra is located on the top of the head.
